Roatán joins Meliá’s map as a new dream destination in the Honduran Caribbean
A new family paradise under the Sol by Meliá brand will open its doors in December, right next to the majestic Mesoamerican Reef System.
Palma de Mallorca, November 3, 2025. In line with its characteristic spirit of exploration and commitment to authentic destinations, Meliá Hotels International announces its arrival in Honduras with the opening of its first hotel on the island of Roatán, one of the Caribbean Sea’s best-kept secrets. The new establishment, which will operate under the renovated vacation brand Sol by Meliá, will open its doors in December, bringing the essence of summer holidays reinvented for today’s traveler, set within an environment of wild beauty and absolute tranquility.
Located on the island’s east coast, away from the tourist bustle of West End, the hotel allows guests to enjoy virgin beaches like Camp Bay, explore mangrove tunnels in Oak Ridge, or access by boat to gems like Little French Key. However, one of Roatán’s greatest treasures is its proximity to the Mesoamerican Reef System, the second-largest ecosystem in the Americas, which extends from Mexico to Honduras. This marine ecosystem harbors great biodiversity, including turtles, rays, tropical fish, and the majestic whale shark, making Roatán a reference destination for diving and snorkeling.
Sol by Meliá Roatán Luna Resort—currently operating as Media Luna Resort & Beach Club—will be a 4-star hotel with facilities designed for all tastes: a buffet restaurant, outdoor pool, children’s activities, a diving center with a private pier, and will soon feature a new spa and an area for events and meetings. The hotel will undergo a series of renovations with the goal of reflecting the new attributes of the Sol brand, which celebrates the essence of classic vacations, reinvented for the modern world.
With a functional lifestyle design, integrated technology, and innovative proposals, the brand creates experiences designed for family, modern, and multigenerational travel, but also for couples, groups of friends, and solo travelers, in an environment where everyone is welcome. From themed activities and entertainment for all ages to spaces for relaxation and connection with nature, Sol invites guests to enjoy holidays like never before.
This milestone has been made possible thanks to the close collaboration between Meliá and the HMResorts group, led by the entrepreneur Piero DiBattista, whose vision and commitment to the tourism development of Roatán have been a long-standing contribution.
As Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, stated: “Roatán represents a unique opportunity for Meliá: an emerging destination with unparalleled natural wealth and immense potential for family tourism. With Sol by Meliá, we want to offer our guests a fun, modern experience deeply connected to its surroundings, in one of the most beautiful corners of the Caribbean that helps us consolidate our leadership in leisure travel.”
With this opening, Meliá strengthens its presence in the Caribbean and continues its expansion strategy in the American continent, betting on authentic and sustainable destinations that connect with new generations of travelers.
